Traditional Chinese Medical Acupressure Massage

Tuina (twee-nar) is traditional Chinese medical acupressure massage and manipulation therapy. It differs in techniques considerably compared to western massage & physiotherapy using mainly deep, repetitive, rhythmical oil free pressure to release tight & fibrous muscle tissue and stagnation within the tissues to treat pain and musculoskeletal conditions & injuries. It combines deep tissue massage, joint mobilisation & manual pressure stimulation of acupuncture points using the theoretical framework of traditional Chinese medicine.
This therapy has the longest history of continued use than any other existing therapy, thousands of years predating the use of acupuncture, it has evolved out of the traditional Chinese medical model and is currently used in modern day Chinese hospitals instead of physiotherapy to treat mainly musculoskeletal conditions and also childhood diseases.
Combination therapy: - Used on it’s own or combined with acupuncture & cupping. I usually blend tuina techniques with western remedial massage techniques when treating musculoskeletal conditions.
